Obituary

RoShunda Yvette Hanks was born in Bryan, Texas on February 4, 1975. She was
the first born daughter of the late Melvin Lee Hanks, Sr. and Betty Suseberry Hanks.
RoShunda has two older brothers, Melvin L. Hanks, Jr. and Derrick W. Hanks, and two
younger twin sisters, Tanisha L. Hanks and Tashara G. Hanks.
RoShunda gave her life to Christ at an early age attending New Chapel
Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas and served in music ministry. She
graduated from Bryan High School (Class of 1993). After graduating high school,
RoShunda attended Charles and Sue’s School of Hair Design where she received her
cosmetology license. Shortly after, she attended Prairie View A&M University, where
she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (2000) and Master’s
degree in Special Education/Educational Diagnostics (2004). During her
undergraduate career, RoShunda was initiated into the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Alpha
Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated (Fall 2000) as “Pump It Up” where she was
number seven on her line, Intricate Pearls of Envy.
After graduating with her graduate degree, RoShunda moved to Houston, TX
where she united in fellowship at Brook Hollow Church without Walls (Katy, TX)
serving in both the music and women’s ministries. RoShunda taught in public schools
for 10 years and was an Early Childhood Pre-School supervisor and administrator at
Big Top Learning Center. She also served under many positions including, chapter
President and Treasurer, in the graduate chapter of AKA, Rho Phi Omega. RoShunda
also served on the South Central Hospitality Committee. In her most recent educational
endeavor, she was working on obtaining a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
After her years of service in education, RoShunda embarked on a journey as an
entrepreneur as the owner and operator of, Stick A Fork In It Desserts. She created a
cookbook shortly after launching her business. RoShunda also served as a contributing
author of, “The Early Childhood Toddler’s Curriculum Resource”. She possessed many
talents such as: cooking, baking, crafting, teaching, hairdressing, styling, and
mentoring. She will most certainly be missed for her kind heart, infectious laughter, and
delicious tea cakes and cinnamon rolls.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Betty Suseberry Hanks; brothers,
Melvin L. Hanks, Jr. and Derrick W. Hanks; sisters, Tanisha L. Hanks and Tashara G.
Hanks; nephew, Jayden M. Hanks; special friend, Raymond Perry, Jr.; and a host of
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children, and friends. She is preceded in
death by her father, Melvin L. Hanks, Sr.; grandfathers, Harvey Hanks, Sr. and Archie
Suseberry; and grandmothers, Mary Hanks and Ora Mae Suseberry.
