Obituary

Charles Belvin Cashaw was born September 13, 1938, to the late Wesley and Effie Cashaw. He was the tenth of 11 children. Papa Wesley and Mother Effie taught them the value of working hard, serving God, obtaining an education, and most importantly, how to love unconditionally. All the children shared a special bond. Mr. Cashaw accepted Christ as his Savior and united with Mt. Tibor Baptist Church, where Reverend Yancy served as pastor. He also attended Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church under the late D.N. Jones and United Missionary Baptist Church under the late U.L. Green. He continued his journey for spiritual enrichment when God led him to join Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Craig Anderson. He was a member of the male chorus and attended brotherhood faithfully until his health failed. Mr. Cashaw truly loved his pastor, first lady Mrs. Lois Anderson, and the entire Pleasant Grove family. Mr. Cashaw attended E.A. Kemp High School. He left school and went to work to meet the financial needs of the family. He worked as a representative for the International Labor Union for almost ten years, worked in the construction industry, and drove trucks for many years. Mr. Cashaw was also an entrepreneur, as the owner of Charlie Snack Bar and Grill, for many years. When all of his children started to participate in extracurricular ac-tivities and developed new interests, he closed the snack bar and went to work for Transit Redi Mix, where he worked until he retired.Mr. Cashaw was united in marriage to Rosie Hollis on August 10, 1963. God blessed him with five children, Pastor James Turner, Evelyn Pierce, Deborah Springer, Roderick Cashaw, Jr., and Cynthia Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Effie Cashaw; brothers Clarence, Lindeil, Wesley, and Jessie Cashaw; and sisters, Luetts Cashaw, Cleola Morris, and Ikie Cooper.Charles Cashaw was the patriarch of the family. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted wife, Rosie Cashaw; two sons, James Turner (Wenda) and Roderick Cashaw, Sr.; his children’s mother, Melanie Ann Cashaw of Bryan, Texas; daughters, Evelyn Pierce (Billy), Deborah Springer (Henderson), and Cynthia Young (John), all of Bryan, Texas; one sister, Estene Paulk of Bryan, Texas; two brothers, James O. Cashaw (Sandra) and Lorenza Cashaw, both of Houston, Texas; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a special goddaughter, Nancy Turner; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Expression of Gratitude

Because you cared, you came to share beautiful flowers and words of prayer. Because you cared enough to do, words of comfort on cards came, too. Because you cared, we were not alone; calls and visits reached our home. Because you cared, we are grateful indeed. You have been a comfort and a friend in need. Because you cared, we are praying, too, for God’s richest blessings for each of you.

I remember Charles as a guy who rode the bus to school from Benchley along with those of us who lived on the “ outskirts “. I recall that he was somewhat quiet and minded his own business. Along with Homer, Myrtle Rice and others , the Cashaws would board the bus in the 50’s to get an education. May Charles take his rest and rest peacefully
