Home Going Celebration for Sis. Lillie Mae McDaniel

Lillie Mae Griggs Thomas McDaniel born on January 06, 1921, to Samuel Ernest and Georgia Ann Whitfield-
Griggs. She was the 7th child of 12 children born to this union and accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope

Missionary Baptist Church. Lillie Mae Griggs grew up in Gause, Texas which was later redistricted to Caldwell,
Texas. Ms. Lillie attended Smith High School, formally known as Smith Grade in Teals Prairie Community and
has been a resident of Burleson County most of her life, except for her short move to Victoria, TX during her first
marriage to Alvin Joe Thomas. Lillie left the community for approximately 5 years and returned to the area and
has been a citizen in Burleson County ever since.
Ms. Lillie has been married twice: First husband, Alvin Joe Thomas (deceased) and she had 4 children while
wearing this name; Gwendolyn Thomas Moore (deceased), Shirley Thomas Brown, of Houston TX, Patsy
Thomas Butler Griffin, of Wylie, TX and Cynthia Thomas Foster, of Houston, TX. The second husband, William
McDaniel Jr. (deceased) and marriage was blessed with 4 children. Patricia McDaniel Burks, of Houston, TX,
William McDaniel III, of Caldwell, TX, Dorothy McDaniel, Bryan, TX, and Luedell (Candi) McDaniel Fisher,
of College Station, TX. In addition to being a wife and mother, she has been active in her church, and civic
responsibilities included; a lifelong member at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, she sung in the choir,
served guest and members at special events and she was also the Mother of Church.
Ms. McDaniel’s compassion for people led her to provide care giving to the elderly in her communities, and a
retired employee from Texas A&M University. During a long and productive lifetime, she demonstrated in
countless ways, her dedication for the welfare of others and earned the respect and affection of people from all
ages and social classes; she was a positive role model as a parent and citizen in the community. Ms. McDaniel
lived during the most eventful four quarters of a century, or 10 decades in this world’s history, and in her quiet
way has been a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those around her during turbulent times.
Proceeding her in death was her father; Samuel Griggs, and mother; Georgia Whitfield Griggs, her eleven (11)
siblings: Six (6) brothers; Samuel, Moses, Charles, Joseph, Richard and Jackson. Five (5) sisters; Francis
Deshone, Mary Jones, Georgia Clemmons, Ruth French and Pearl Butler. Daughter and Son-in-Law; Gwendolyn
and Milton Moore, granddaughters; Michelle, Latonya and Latisha.
Ms. Lillie leaves to cherish her memories seven (7) children: Shirley Brown, Patsy Griffin, Cynthia & Willie
Foster, Patricia McDaniel Burks, William & Mary McDaniel III, Dorothy McDaniel, Candi & Tim Fisher.
Twenty-seven (27) Grandchildren, Fifty-three (53) Great-Grandchildren, and Thirty-four (34) Great-Great
Grandchildren. Niece; Doris Deshone Marsh, Sister in Laws; Dorothy Nell McDaniel, Pearl McDaniel, and a host
of nieces and nephews.

A Wake Service will be held on Friday July 1, 2022 from 4:00P.M. until 6:00P.M. at Daniel & Son Funeral Home located at 401 W 18th Street Bryan, Texas 77803

    I grew up as a child knowing and loving cousin Lilly she always had such a warm and pleasant smile I will really miss seeing her when I visit home. Thank God for her long an blessed life.
