Celebrating A Blessed Life Maedell W. Lewis

Maedell Lewis was born on January 7, 1916 to the union Bessie (Roy) and James Wilson.
Raised under strong Christian beliefs and values, Maedell accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Wellborn, TX. As Maedell began to grow into a young girl, she could often be found riding her horse to school. After matriculating through elementary school, Maedell moved to Bryan, TX to live with Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Daniel Sr. to continue her studies at E.A. Kemp High School. She graduated and was honored as the Salutatorian for the Class of 1934.
On September 23, 1934, Maedell married her first love, J.C. Mosley, and to this union they had three children; James Carey, Evelyn Earle, and Jon Allen. Many years following the untimely passing of J.C., Maedell moved to Temple, TX and met and married Clifton Moore Jr. in 1951 and from this union they had one child; Clifton Moore III.
Later in life, she married Cleveland W. Lewis in 1971 and moved to Los Angeles, California, from there to Churchview, Virginia and after Mr. Lewis’ passing, Maedell and her youngest son, Clifton returned to Bryan.
Upon her return to Bryan, Maedell reunited with Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Bryan, TX, where she was a faithful and dutiful member, and serving on the Naomi Circle Missionary Society. She played piano for Sunday School, and continued spreading her love of Jesus Christ through song by playing as a pianist at Macedonia Baptist Church, Temple, TX and Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Bryan, TX, and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Los Angeles, CA.
Maedell worked many years in retail services for Montgomery Wards retired in 1990. During her retirement years, she enjoyed hobbies such as working puzzle books, sewing, and watching her favorite TV programs. You could tell what time it was by when Maedell promptly started watching her TV programs at 10:00 a.m. with “In the Heat of the Night”, 4:00 p.m. with “Family Feud” and 6:30 p.m. with “Wheel of Fortune”. Maedell adopted both Steve Harvey and President Barack Obama as her secret husband(s).
In 2011, Maedell moved to Roanoke, Texas to live with her grand-daughter and grandson, Linda and Clarence Banks and while there, she traveled many places to Bryan (hometown), as well as, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Nashville, Shreveport, Texas City, Memphis, Little Rock, Lafayette, and Palestine.
Under Christian watchcare, she united with Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. She remained a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior until her passing at the spry age of 104 years.
Maedell, affectionately called, “Mama”, “Grandma”, “Grandmother”, “Ms. Maedell”, and “GG” leaves to cherish her memory; two sons, Jon Allen Mosley of Paramount, CA, and Clifton Moore III of Aurora, CO; eleven grandchildren, Ronnie Miller, Brenda Miller, Sherald (Gary) Terrell, John Miller, Jr., Lynne Mosley, Linda Banks (Clarence), Gary Mosley, Evelyn Mack (Vernell), Deana Payton (Fred), Serena Mosley and Clifton Moore IV (Morgan); 14 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, two grand-dogs and a host of family and friends.
