Gloria Faye Byrtle was born February 11, 1953 in Shiloh, Texas to the late Robert Lee Byrtle and Ethel Jewel Calhoun.
She accepted Christ at an early age with the St. Matthew Baptist Church and later with Christ Holy Missionary Baptist Church in College Station, Texas where she sang in the choir and served the committee. She was a proud graduate of A&M Consolidated High School Class of 1972, where she was a twirler. Gloria dedicated many years of service through her employment with Texas A&M University ARC Agency Management Service, College Station ISD and later retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety in Bryan, Texas.
As an adult, she enjoyed reading romance novels, working on puzzles, drinking coffee all day, cooking scratching Lotto tickets, playing Bingo and Candy Crush, and watching all types of sports, especially the rodeo. She also played on both fast- pitch and slow pitch softball teams as a catcher.
Gloria had a special gift for bringing life to plants. She could revive an ivy on its very last vine, and soon enough, ivy would be growing all around the walls of the house, what was her unique recipe? Cigarettes, coffee, and a touch of mayonnaise. Every plant had its own name. Gloria was well known for pressing hair, long before silk presses became popular, she was incredibly gifted with Marcel curling irons and could style hair beautifully with precision and care, many family members and friends trusted her hands, her technique, and her eye for beauty.
To almost everyone, Gloria Faye Byrtle was lovingly known as “Glo.” She was blessed with three beautiful children: Carlos “Skeeter” Byrtle, Tremaine Byrtle, and Kylie Bowers (Antoine,
Sr.), all of Bryan-College Station, Texas. On Sunday, May 3, 2026, Gloria Faye Byrtle, lovingly called “Momma Glo” by her pastor, answered the Heavenly Father’s call from labor to rest. She will be dearly missed because she was not only an amazing mother, granny, sister, and friend, but also an amazing singer, dancer, comedian, and stylist. We are all better because Glo kept us laughing and forever remained the life of the party. She was truly the queen of nicknames, giving everyone she loved a special name that will forever carry her memory. Her love, joy, laughter, and unforgettable spirit will forever live in our hearts.
Gloria Faye Byrtle was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Freely and Minnie Calhoun; husband, Edward Charles Dotson, Sr.; stepson, Edward Dotson, Jr.; and stepfather, Thurman Duffie.
