Obituary
Johnnie Lee Nutall, affectionately known as “Sonny,” was born March 10, 1942 in Steele’s Store,
Brazos County, Texas. He was the youngest child of four children born to Katie Mae Young Nutall
and Jessie Nutall, (both preceding him in death). Johnnie attended Fairview Elementary School and
was a 1962 graduate of E.A. Kemp High School in Bryan, Texas. After graduation, he was employed
in the City of Bryan Electrical Distribution Department. He enjoyed his career and ultimately began
to live and enjoy retirement.
On September 5, 1965, he married Beverley Jean Davis and one daughter, Pamela Yvette, was born
to that union.
Johnnie loved his family, spending time with them, cooking out and eating good food. For the last

several years, he and Beverley were blessed to spend Thanksgiving with his sister-in-law and brother-
in-law in Duncanville, Texas. Thanksgiving this year was especially great because his nephew, Derrick

came from Washington, DC to spend time with him. Sonny loved traveling (especially on cruises). He
enjoyed fixing things, and was often called upon to exercise his natural ability to create and/or repair
almost anything. Most of all, he truly loved his grandchildren, always challenging, teaching, and
training them to reach higher heights in life.
Johnnie joined Allen Chapel AME Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. S. L. Berry. He served
as an usher for several years and later became a trustee and was a Trustee Emeritus until his death. He
had a great passion for Allen Chapel. Even in his latter days, he loved serving the church, making sure
all his tithes and offerings were returned to the Lord.
Johnnie departed this life Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Duncanville, Texas. He was preceded in
death by his beloved daughter, Pamela Yvette Nutall, his siblings, Jessie Mae Nutall Ramsey and Mary
Helen Nutall Beverly. He leaves to treasure his loving memory, his wife of 57 years, Beverley Jean
Davis Nutall; one sister, Mattie Pearl Morris (Pacioma, CA); grandchildren, Micah Scott Smith, Leah
Ashten Smith, Tracy Scott Smith, Jr., and Gabriel Christen Smith; one goddaughter, LaPeatrice
Drayton; sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
