Deacon Robert Louis Grays

Robert Louis Grays was born on April 16, 1930 in Bryan, Texas to Edward Grays and Edith Jenkins. Robert Louis Grays was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age. He remained faithful with his walk with Christ at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Craig Anderson. He was a Deacon and sang in the male & senior church choir. He remained faithfully until his health failed and couldn’t participate like he wanted to.

Robert Louis Grays, was married to the love of his life, Elza May Grays and to this union seven children were born. After the demise of his wife, Elza, he found true love again with Emma Mae Sanders Newton Grays, and along came a blended family with her five children. They were truly a couple that loved each other.


Robert Louis Grays attended Public Schools in Bryan, Texas, he worked for Texas A & M University, and he was just a jack of all trades. He knew a little something about a little of everything. He enjoyed watching his Dallas Cowboys with his boys and family.

Preceding him in death were his first love, Elza Mae Grays, then his second wife, Emma Mae Grays; his parents; his paternal grandmother, Alberta Grays; one sister, Alberta Bailey; one brother ,Edward Grays, Jr; one son, Larry Grays; and his children with Emma, Lester Charles “Mickey Newton; Rubye Faye Newton Ellis.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Robert Grays, Jr., Edward Lee Grays, Joe Grays and Thomas Grays (Flecia Whatley); two daughters, Deborah Hunter (Anthony Crawford) and Candace Grays; one sister, Wilma Russell. He also has his blessed family of Emma’s, Brenda Thompson, Shirley Poole, Curtis Sanders Sr. and Curtis Sander Jr. ”Buggy” and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held October 19, 2020 from 2pm to 5pm at Daniel and Son Funeral Home 401 W.18th st.,Bryan, TX 77803.

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday October 20, 2020, at 11:00 am at the Oakwood Cemetery West Hwy 21, Bryan, Tx.
