Celebrating A Legacy for Deacon A.D. Holland
Obituary
Mr. A. D. Holland made his debut on March 28, 1935, in Madisonville,
Texas, to parents, W. T. Holland and Mary Bradford Holland. He was the youngest of
five brothers. He accepted Christ as a young man at Stone City Baptist Church in the
Brazos Bottom. He transitioned from his earthly body to his spiritual soul on Sunday
January 15, 2023.
Mr. A. D. was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Baby Holland,
O.C. Holland, U.B. Holland, Willie Holland, and Marvin Holland; one grandson,
Eric Dickey; and one great-grandson, Avery Nowlin. He was the last living brother of
the Holland Men.
Mr. A. D. was a gentle soul—well-mannered, gracious, and caring. He was eager
to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and offered sound advice straight from the
Word of God. He spoke with concise convictions not wavering from his beliefs and
spiritual background taught to him by his mother.
Mr. A. D. was a teacher and administrator, and taught with power and authority
in the churches he served as a dutiful member. He wore many hats in his stewardship.
He was a Mason at the local Masonic Lodge. He imparted wisdom and knowledge to
many young men in our church and community, equipping them with the attributes
necessary to become men. He was an activist and civil servant in communities
surrounding Brazos Valley. He was a voice for civil rights and equality.
He was an industrious business entrepreneur, achieving many trades and enterprises,
to provide a comfortable life for his wife and children with only a seventh-grade
education. He was self-taught and educated himself by reading books on prosperous
men and leadership from powerful leaders, and he applied that acknowledge to
navigate life and be successful. He was a visionary; a man before his time.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Ida Mae
Rice Holland; two daughters, Marilyn Holland Dickey and Linda Holland; two
grandchildren, Sedrick Eugene Nowlin (Cecelia) of Lithonia, Georgia, and Larrisha
Jamese Dickey of Atlanta, Georgia; five great-grandchildren, Mercer and Xavier
Nowlin of Lithonia, Georgia, Trinity Nowlin (Karyn Lowe) of Birmingham, Alabama,
and Allaynah Edwards (Taiesha Hatch) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; special family,
India and Miriam Vincent of Snellville, Georgia; and host of very close cousins,
nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was rich with an abundance of love from
his family and friends.
