Obituary


Cordia B. Hanks was born May 10, 1941 in Navasota, Texas
to the late Mary and Harvey Hanks, Sr. She was the fifth of eight children.
The family later moved to Bryan in 1957. She graduated from E. A. Kemp
High School, class of 1959.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Navasota. After moving to Bryan the family
joined Third Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. In 1973, she united with Greater Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where she served
until her health failed. Cordia was a loyal, faithful member of the choir,
Usher board and Mission I and II. She attended Bible Study Fellowship
with her best friend and confidant, Josephine Carroll, for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a loving husband of thirty–nine
years, Major Johnson; five brothers, Willie Hanks Terrell, Melvin Hanks,
Walter Hanks, Harvey Hanks, Jr. and Robey Hanks; one sister, Wazzie
Hanks Masco.
Forever in our hearts and memories, she leaves a loving daughter, Evelyn Gilmore Ross; one granddaughter, LaMary Marie Ross (Julianne Whittine) of Bryan, Texas; a grandson, Johnathan Harvey Ross of Arlington, Texas; one brother, William Hanks of Bryan, Texas; a beloved cousin, Payton Mallard Sr. (Nelvin) of Houston, Texas; two nephews, Melvin Hanks Jr. and Derrick Hanks; one niece, Johnette Banks Hearne; great niece and nephew, Asha D. Webb and Ahzaniah Shabat Zayan (Roderick Hearne Jr.) (Shamachaa Mathanah-Erin), all of Bryan, Texas; three beloved sisters-in-law, Bobbie Poole Carter, Shirley Newton Poole and Wilma DeShone-Hanks; a loving and nurturing friend, Evangelist Fayeola Jones Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
