On May 17, 1944, Zelma Jones and Collie Jones Sr. were blessed with a daughter, Ruth Thelma Jones. She spent her childhood in Tunis, Texas, and attended Jones High School in Snook, Texas. Ruth accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
She attended New Jerusalem Christ Holy Sanctified Church, and served under the leadership of Bishop James McBride. She was an active member in church, often traveling and singing with the church choir. She also enjoyed singing with her sisters, Azzie and Naomi, and they were known by many as “The Jones Sisters”.
During that time, she met the love of her life, Willie Marion Hines, and they were united in Holy Matrimony. They remained as one for twenty-nine years. to this blessed union, two beautiful daughters were born, Angela and Tiffanie. Ruth was a devoted wife, and encouraged her husband when he was called to the ministry. She faithfully served as a First Lady, while her husband
pastored Neighborhood Full Gospel Church for sixteen years, until he was called home to glory in 1999. Even then, she remained faithful to ministry, and her love for God.
Ruth was a loving mother. She enjoyed cooking, and keeping her home beautiful. She dedicated her latter years to spending time with her daughters, and enjoying her grandchildren. She also served on the Bryan ISD Board, because she always had a love for children and their education.
She was reunited again with the love of her life, Willie, when God called her back home to heaven in the afternoon of Saturday, September 12, 2026. She’s also reunited with her parents, Zelma and Collie Jones, her brothers, Collie Jones Jr., Sammie Jones, Leroy Jones, Mel Jones, and her sisters, Geneva Jones, and Katherine Rogers.
She will be cherished in loving memory by her daughters, Angela Rennee Hines and Tiffanie Katrina Whitfield, her forever son, Carlton Whitfield, her four grandchildren, Jasmine Ruth Hines, Brandon Willie Hines, Carlton Lee Walter Whitfield, and Caleb LeShawn Whitfield, one brother, Andrew Jones, and three sisters, Huella Huff, Azzie Beard, and Naomi Hargraves, and a host
