Dianne, beloved Sister, Auntie, Cousin, and Professor was born to Juanita Vernell Bower Mosley and Lon Wiggins Mosley in 1948. She attended Edward S. Doty in McKinney Texas until the end of her junior year. While at Doty, Dianne was a popular and talented student. She was voted Homecoming Queen and was a tenor saxophone player and Drum Majorette in the Doty High School Bobcat marching band. She performed in many, many football halftime shows and marched in many parades through Downtown McKinney Texas.

When the family relocated to Dallas, Dianne stayed behind with Granny to finish out her junior
year after which she enrolled at Roosevelt High School where, once again, she made her mark. She was Roosevelt’s Drum Majorette and was also a Debutante participating in the
glamorous world of Dallas’ Black Cotillion. When it came time to pursue higher education, Dianne opted to attend the University of Texas. Her undergraduate education occurred during the tumultuous years of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements. She was an active participant in the fight for equality for Black students in Austin Texas, a fact which was chronicled in a book written about that era. Dianne obtained several degrees, in Sociology, Social Work, and
Psychology. She matriculated at UT, TSU, and TWU where she earned her Doctorate in Sociology. Her doctoral dissertation chronicled the impact of family cemeteries with emphasis on our
family’s fascinating history. She found her true calling as a Professor of Sociology at TSU. She was a popular teacher who educated and motivated students for almost three decades.

Dr. Dianne is survived by her three siblings, Deborah, Lon, and Mark; her 5 nephews and nieces, Jason, Amber, Nicolette, Colin, and Micah; and her grand-nieces Ava and Alyssa. She will be
dearly missed by all her family, friends and students.
