Remembering Claudolyn McCarty
Claudolyn was born June 15, 1949 to Claud Edward Hill Sr. and Evelyn Elizabeth Wright Hill in Paris, Texas. She was the oldest of eight children.
Claudolyn is preceded in death by her father, Claud Edward Hill Sr, mother Evelyn Hill, sisters Karel Coletta Hill and Evelyn Kay Hill, and brother Rodney Adair Hill.
Claudolyn is survived by sister Macie Betharine Clay and brothers Claud Edward Hill Jr, Edger Francis Hill, and Johnny Charles Hill.
Anyone that knew Claudolyn knew that her children and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She had five children, two daughters, and three sons. Her daughters are Chiffon Jasmine McCarty and Ursala Noel McCarty. Her sons are Brian Kelso McCarty, Adonis Roland McCarty, and Clifton Derrick McCarty. Claudolyn had four grandchildren: Adonis Roland McCarty Jr., Quinten Thomas McCarty, Bamidele Ademide Gbadebo, and Omolola Ifedayo Gbadebo.
An enthusiastic student, Claudolyn gained her early education in the Paris public schools, including Gibbons High School. She then attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas where she majored in Library Science. In 1970, she moved to Oakland, CA after marrying Welton McCarty. There, she worked for the local Social Security Office and the Oakland Bay Bridge.
In 1986, after ending her marriage with Welton, she moved to Somerville, Texas where she later gave birth to her daughters. A devoted mother and religious woman, she focused on caring for the well-being of her children and pushed them to achieve higher level of education, with each of them attending college and universities themselves.
In her free time, Claudolyn was an avid reader and over time, she built an extensive library. She also was very strong on family and maintained several family history books, which would later be passed down to her children.
In her later years, Claudolyn cared for others through her career as a home health aide. She had an infectious smile and lively spirit that is unforgettable. She was loved by all those who knew her and will be greatly missed.
She passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in College Station, Texas. She was 74 years old. Though she is gone physically, she will live on in our memories.
