Alice Marie Davenport Washington
Sunrise: July 19, 1943
On July 19, 1943, a beautiful baby girl was born by the name of Alice Marie to Minnie
Mae and Jesse Lee Davenport. Alice, aka (Ree) was the second oldest of nine. She
enjoyed the many childhood things done by most girls around in the neighborhood
alongside her oldest sister, Erma. She enjoyed walking to the park and going to the movies, hint: (if Sunday School had been attended). This was the perk received for going. They made many fond memories together using their skills and talents in many ways to help mom with the little ones and with chores around the house. In her spare time she enjoyed hanging out with friends Lera, Alice Sue, Hester and her cousin Will. Will said, he would get an early morning knock on the window with a shout inside saying “you know the early birds gets the worm”, then off they would go to hunt for money along the grounds of a local tavern, aka (Plukes). Many times they would also journey off into what is known to many in the neighborhood as “the branch”. Once there, they would catch crawfish, when finished they would build a
fire with screen wire, clean them, peel the crawfish tail, then meal them for cooking.
Alice attended Bryan Public Schools, graduated from E. A. Kemp High School in
1961 and briefly attended McKenzie Baldwin Business College. Moving on to the
adolescent years, Alice held various odd jobs to help her parents around the house,
then later accepted a job with Texas A&M University, where she worked for many
years before moving to California. After arriving to California, she held various jobs
to continue to support her parents. Later she met Alton Moore and to this union one
son was born, John, aka (Tweet). Alice met Bobbie later, who became the love her
life. They married, then she went worked for General Hospital for numerous years
before accepting a job with the Los Angeles County Juvenile Department where she held the position as a Property Manager Supervisor until retirement.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Lee Chapel United
Methodist Church until she joined Hollypark United Methodist Church in Gardena, California. There she was very active and served as a class leader, a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW) as well as a Youth Sunday School Teacher. On May 14, Alice received her wings, entered through the pearly white gates with streets paved of gold to join those who preceded her in death Jesse (dad), Minnie Mae (mom) and Erma (sister) awaiting to be reunited again. Precious memories will be cherished by her husband Bobbie, one son, John (Jessica) of Houston, Texas, and one step-son Bobbie Jr. of Riverside, California. Five sisters, Jessie Mae (James) of Bryan, Texas, Evelyn of San Antonio, Beverley of Los Angeles, California, Annette of Houston, Texas, and Charlotte of Lancaster, California. Two brothers; Jesse Jr, and Joseph of Bryan, Texas. Four grandchildren, John Jr and Jahjuan, of Houston, Texas, Bobbie III, and Biante of Los Angeles, California and a host of nephews/nieces, great nephews/nieces, relatives, in-laws and friends. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 21, 2020 from 2pm to 6pm in the chapel of Daniel and Son Funeral Home 401 w.18th st Bryan Tx 77803.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday May 22, 2020 at 2pm at Oakwood Cemetery Dean Street Bryan, Tx .
