Ruby Faye Ellis
Sunrise: September 3, 1948
Ruby Faye Ellis was born on September 3, 1948 through the loving union of
Zellie Newton and Emma Mae Newton. She was the third child of six.
Ruby graduated from E.A. Kemp High School in 1967. As she was the eldest
daughter, her father, Zellie affectionately nicknamed her “Big Girl”.
Accordingly, she took her role as big sister very seriously. In fact, after
continuing her education at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin Texas, she
methodically signed up her younger sister , brother, and a handful of cousins to
also attend the university.
After graduating college with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Ruby
married her high school sweetheart, Merion Earl Ellis on June 12, 1971. The
newlyweds moved to South Carolina for a short time to begin their careers.
However, they would soon return to Texas via Clear Lake City and purchase
their first home. Ruby went on to work with NASA at Ford Aerospace and Loral
Aerospace. During this time, she also had two children: Tameka Michelle and
Sean Christopher Merion Ellis.
Although Ruby was introduced to God at an early age, she rededicated her life
to Christ after a difficult divorce. She joined Bible Way Fellowship Baptist
Church where she inundated herself in the Word, transformed her mind, and
introduced her own children to the Love of Christ. At Bible Way, Ruby met
many fellow parishioners who shared her same journey and all of them became
her lifelong friends. There, she also met Donald Hall whom she would later
marry in July 2008 after falling in love with his adorable twin daughters: Brianna
and Dana.
During this time of spiritual growth, Ruby also experienced renewed success at
work after a career change from finance to sales. She quickly discovered she had
a knack for the trade after working at Bay Area Jewelers. She later transferred
her new skills to EZ Pawn where she became a certified gemologist and
solidified her love of both jewelry and highly competitive sales. She maintained
the position of #1 sales person nationwide until she retired.
Ruby departed this life on January 9, 2020. She is preceded in death by both of
her parents and two brothers: Lester “Mickey” Newton and Zellie Newton Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers and one foster brother: Rev.
Curtis J. Sanders Sr. of Bryan, TX; Curtis J. Sanders Jr. (Patience) of Dallas, TX;
and James Thomas Evans (Doris) of Houston, TX She also has two sisters and
one foster sister: Shirley Poole (Billy) of Bryan, TX; Brenda Newton-Thompson
(Larry) of Dallas, TX; and Loreah Johnson (Tracy) of Austin, TX. Although she
will be sorely missed, her daughter Tameka Thomas, of Fort Worth, TX, son
Sean Christopher Merion Ellis of Houston, TX, and grandson Jordan Thomas
along with a host of extended family and friends will remember and treasure
the time that God placed Ruby in our lives.
Visitation will be held on Friday January 17, 2020 from 10am to 7pm in the chapel of Daniel and Son Funeral Home, 401 W.18th St, Bryan, Tx 77801

I can remember growing up admiring her beauty. I loved to hear her speak with such eloquence. Her life was filled with many accomplishments and she lived a very good life. I know she loved the Lord and she lived her life glorifying Him. The Heavens are singing; God’s faithful servant is at rest.
