Michael “ Fairfield“ Slaughter
On June 14, 1957, Michael AKA Michael Fairfield was born. He is the 3rd child out of 6 children that the late Nelson Walter Slaughter Jr. and Irene Marie Carrol Slaughter brought into this world. Michael went to Fairfield High School and graduated with the wonderful class of 1976. He was active in many extra-curricular activities, which included band, baseball, basketball, football, and track. Michael attended Huston Tillson in Austin, Texas, where he excelled in baseball, later he attended Southern Arkansas University where he pledged Phi Beta Sigma in the Spring of 1978 and was branded months later.
Michael started his work career with Southwestern Bell where he was employed in Houston Texas until the company split. He was promoted and relocated with AT&T telephone company in Orlando Florida where he worked for several years and was later relocated with Southwestern Bell to Alpharetta, Georgia. After leaving Southwestern bell he worked for a Balfour printing company in Dallas Texas and finally worked as a Farm employee in and around the Fairfield Texas area assisting with farm work. Michael has Six (6) children, the Father of Four (4) and Two (2) Bonus children. He married Phyllis Garrick and to that union, they had one daughter. Michael loved Fairfield, he loved his own house/home, his family, and his friends. However, due to declining health issues, in June 2021, Michael relocated to Houston and he spent his last days surrounded by family in that area. When we would ask Michael how he was doing, he would say “pretty good, I can’t complain”.
