Leonard James Neblett
Sunrise: September 9, 1935
Leonard James Neblett was born on September 9, 1935 to James and Beatrice Nelson Neblett.
Leonard grew up in the Steep Hollow community and was educated in the
Bryan Public School System. Leonard was married to the late Naomi Reed Neblett. To this union seven children were born.
Leonard was taught to provide for his family by his father, James. He
passed these same teachings on to his sons. Because Leonard couldn’t
earn enough to support his family with one job, it forced him to work sev-
eral jobs at the same time. At one time Leonard worked four jobs, one full
time and three part time. It was obvious that he did what he needed to do
to provide for his family.
Leonard was employed by many companies in Brazos County. He worked
and retired from Sears (28 years). He retired from Bryan ISD (12 years).
He retired from the Eagle Newspaper (6 Years) and finally he retired from
the Bethel Lutheran Church (52 years). Leonard continued to work odd
jobs until his health begin to fail him in 2016.
Leonard later married Francis Gilbert. They were married for 18 plus years until his passing.
Leonard served as Deacon for West Union MBC for many years under the
leadership of the late Reverend M. H. Harris, the late Rev. Finley, the late
Rev. Baker, the late Reverend Taylor and the current Pastor, Reverend An-
thony Lang.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Beatrice Neblett; his first wife, Naomi Reed Neblett; his oldest grandson, Christopher Neblett and his oldest great-grandchild, Kyrah Neblett.
He is survived by his wife, Francis Gilbert Neblett, five daughters, Brenda
Peterson (James), Debbie Nellums (Leroy), Kathy Dunn, Barbara Clark
(Perry) and Pam Neblett; two sons, Robert Neblett (Dellanise) and Theron
(JoJo); four sisters, Naomi Johnson, Velma Spivey, Shirley Wiggins
