In Loving Memory of Mother Annie Pearl Toney
Obituary
Annie Pearl Carroll was born to Mary Harris and Lennon Carroll in Mer Rouge, LA on
November 23, 1940. She was raised on the farmlands of Bonita, Louisiana, assisting her
mother in the care of 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
Annie graduated from Bonita-Rosenwald High School in 1960, with aspirations of
pursuing a career in Early Childhood Education or Nursing. During the Civil Rights Era,
Annie, along with her mother and siblings migrated north to Omaha, Nebraska to
pursue new occupational opportunities. In her early career, Annie attended Metro
Tech Community College while working at Northwestern Bell/Lucent Technologies,
Inc. for over 30 years. She successfully retired in 2001, with a heart to continue to serve
the Lord in full-time ministry thereafter.
Annie’s humble beginning in ministry was birthed and nurtured at the St. Mark Baptist
Church in Omaha, under the leadership of Reverend L.D. Clemons. Her passion for the
poor continued to shine through, as she was known by the greater Omaha Church
community to have delivered grocery baskets to numerous families in the North
Omaha area. Annie’s passion for outreach continued, as she was later appointed
Director of Outreach while serving for almost 20 years at the Robinson Memorial
COGIC in Omaha, under the leadership of her late Pastor, Elder John Ford.
While the Ministry of Helps lied at the center of her heart, Annie felt the Lord’s call to
move to Texas after retirement. With great uncertainty and surprise, she was able to
get clarity about her next assignment. In 2004, Annie was privileged to continue in the
nursing home and food outreach ministries for over 12 years in the Bryan/College
Station area after connecting with and serving under the leadership of Bishop Maurice
Green, Jr., Pastor of the Lily of the Valley Church of God in Christ in Bryan, Texas. She
was able to extend and complete her work in outreach ministry for over 7 years
thereafter at the St. Joseph Church of God in Christ in Franklin, Texas, under the
leadership of John H. Ealoms, Pastor.
Mother Annie Carroll Toney was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend to
many during her wonderful 83 years of life. Annie began her resting period in 2017
after being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. While weak in her body but
strong in spirit, as Annie was able, she continued to share a smile and words of
encouragement to members of her caregiving communities. Annie peacefully passed
away in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, 2024, surrounded by her daughter, Pastor,
close family, friends and the loving members of her Nursing Home/Hospice Care Team.
Annie is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Harris McCloud (Jesse McCloud) and
father, Lennon Carroll; brothers, Jimmie Lee Harris (Gloria Brown), Jesse McCloud
(Mirinda Stapleton), Robert McCloud (Dorothy Lanford), Andrew McCloud (Lisa),
MacArthur Carroll (Mary Dunn); sister, Bessie Mae Thomas-Atkins (Leonard Atkins).
Annie is survived by sisters, Sarah Louise McCloud of Grand Island, Nebraska, Sally
Elizabeth Mitchell and Willie Scott McCloud both of Omaha, Nebraska; God daughters,
Michelle Chapman of Omaha, Nebraska, LaTrisha Marie Hudson-Kioko of Kansas City,
Kansas; and one daughter, Kathy Ann Toney of Bryan, TX; along with a host of nieces,
