Ora Lee Burns (Thomas) was born on August 20, 1947 in Brenham, Texas to Maggie Mae Thomas and M.T. Deaver.
Ora graduated from Burton High School, and afterwards attended Blinn College to pursue her degree in education. Ora fulfilled her career endeavor as an educator within Brenham ISD for numerous years, primarily under the principalship of Artis Edwards, Sr.
She was a devout Christian member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. Dr. Johnnie Williams presided, and subsequently attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, under Rev. Artis Edwards, ‘Sr. for many years thereafter.
Ora was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She transitioned from her earthly life on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas.
Throughout her career in education, Ora became well acquainted with the greater majority of the town of Brenham and was also known widely for her knack in baking various delectible signature items – with her homemade teacakes and biscuits topping the list. Additional leisure activities of Ora’s included reading, gardening, and watching Sci-Fi or the Houston Rockets.
Ora was preceded in death by her parents, Maggie Mae Thomas and M.T. Deaver; Sister, Jane Thomas, and Niece, Tiffany Thomas.
Ora is survived by her children: Staci Soto, Gregory Burns, Sharla Burns, and Shauna Robinson (Adrian); Sisters: Helen R. Logan, Leanna Swafford (Bobby), Everlene Sweed (Charles), and Jill Lewis (Edgar); Brother: Ronnie Gibson, along with an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who love and will miss her profoundly.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 11:00A.M. New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church 2105 FM 2935 Road N. | Brenham, Texas 77833
Visitation Services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 11:00A.M. until 7:00P.M. at Daniel & Son Funeral Home located at 401 W 18th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803
