Obituary

On November 22, 1930 Marilyn Ieans was born to Charlie and Blanche (Ratcliff) Ieans, Sr. in Beaumont, Texas.

Marilyn accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age, was baptized, and was a member of Forrest Street Christian Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Bruce Browser for many years.

Marilyn, known as “Nina” to her family and friends, enjoyed a happy childhood growing up with her siblings. She attended public schools in the Beaumont Independent School District and graduated from Charlton Pollard High School.

Marilyn later moved to Houston, Texas and spent more than 40 years employed by Foley’s Department Store at their flagship location. She took her job there very seriously and quickly became known as “the fixer”. She worked in nearly every department during her time there. She was an exceptional employee, a problem solver and a beloved co-worker. Her retirement party was attended by all store personnel.

While in Houston Marilyn joined another Christian church led by Reverend Griffith and was a faithful member for many years.

After her retirement Marilyn returned to Beaumont to be closer to family members. Although Marilyn had no biological children, she became a “second mother” to her many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She attributes her long life-92 years- to the fact that she never married.

In 2020 after a devastating rainstorm flooded and destroyed her home, Marilyn moved to College Station to continue in her retirement and to live with her nephew, Rodney McFaddin, Sr. She attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Lyons, Texas under the leadership of Reverend Basil Lister.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Charlie Ieans, Jr. and Major John Henry Ieans; her sister Romona Ieans Sellers; her nephews Darryl Ieans and Norman Ieans; her nieces Marilyn Ruby Barnes and Eura Mae Ieans Orobo.

Those left to cherish her memory include her nephews Rodney (Carolyn) McFaddin, Sr. of College Station, Texas; Adam McFaddin III of Houston, Texas; Buster Turner, Jr. and Byron (JoAnn) Turner of Los Angeles, California; Charles “C.W.” (Diverna) Ieans and nephew by marriage Willie Orobo of Beaumont, Texas along with a host of relatives and friends- including a special niece, Kourtney Barnes of Los Angeles, California.
