Patrick was born on January 20,1956 to Lula Bell White and Pat Harrison Hollimon at Alta Bates Community Hospital in Berkely California , both of which preceded him in death as well as his sister Connie Morgan. He was the second of 11 children. Patrick was a sweet, witty and funny person with a big heart and he was also a very determined person. When Patrick got something in his mind he was determined to see it through. So determined that at the age of 3 he was hit by a car while attempting to follow dad to the grocery store. As dad exited the grocery store he witnessed Patrick being struck by the car as he dashed across San Pablo Blvd. Patrick got up and walked home. Dad said “boy, if you didn’t just get hit by a car i would tear your tail up”.
At the age of 3 or 4 Patrick wanted a cup that Denise and Steve were playing with and Denise threw it in the water at Lake Berryessa, in Napa County California to keep Patrick from getting it. Patrick reached at the cup stretching out his arm so far that he lost his footing and fell into the lake. Dad jumped into the water and grabbed Patrick before he went under the water for the second time. As the current pulled them both downstream Mom, in spite of the fact that she could not swim, waded out in the water above her waist and caught Patrick as Dad threw him to her. The force of Dad thrusting Patrick to our mother and the underwater currents in the Lake were so strong that it swept dad out into deeper water. When dad realized that he couldn’t swim against the current he swam with it down stream towards a bend.
Two men standing nearby saw what was happening and sprang into action grabbing a tree limb and reached out as far as they could and Dad was able to grab onto it and they pulled him out the water. Mom said “no more fishing on a Sunday we are going to church “.
Patrick started elementary school at Grant Elementary School in Oakland (it’s no longer there). In the 2nd grade Mom and Dad transferred him mid school year to St. Francis de Sales Cathedral School (also no longer there). Patrick started 3rd grade at St. Jarlath Elementary school (also gone) where he started playing team basketball. By the 6th grade Patrick shined as an outstanding athlete and helped lead his team to many wins.
After graduating from St. Jarlath in the 8th grade, he attended St. Mary’s High School in Berkely. He went with his friends. Walter Bremond and Gerard. The coaches at St. Elizabeth High really wanted him to attend their school. They were disappointed to see him go to St. Mary’s. He was that good!
Patrick left St. Mary’s mid-year and attended McChesney Jr. High where he completed 9th grade. His reputation preceded him at McChesney, and he did the team did well. Patrick also played little league baseball when he was 14 with baseball hall of fame Dave Stewart. Patrick played short stop, and Dave Stewart was the pitcher on the team. They almost went to the state championship.
Dave Stewart, as you may know went on to be a World Series winning pitcher for the Oakland A’s. Patrick then went to and graduated from Oakland High School in 1974. He attended a few classes at Merrit College in Oakland, before going to auto mechanic school in Las Vegas. He was a born auto mechanic. Patrick excelled at anything he put his mind to.
He later met and married Robin and to this union three daughters were born: Tanesha (Dallas, Texas) Ternika (Oakland, California) and Lavese (Phoenix, Arizona).
Patrick leaves to cherish his memory, 5 sisters: Denise (Ron), Barbara (Kendrick), Candice, Terry, and Patricia (Gale); 4 brothers, Steven (Forsynthia), Allen, Stanley (Kim) and Thad(Lucia); a hostof aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
