Denise Watson was born on March 27, 1977, in Dallas, Texas, to proud parents, Norman Shaw and Arvis Marie Miller. A devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, Denise’s life was beautifully rooted in love, family, faith, and service. She was united in holy matrimony to Byrrone Watson, Sr., on January 1, 2000, in Bryan, Texas. Together, they shared 26 years of marriage and a total of 35 years of companionship, building a life marked by devotion, commitment, and unwavering family bonds.
Denise was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Norman Shaw and Arvis Marie Miller; her sisters, Keilani Bailey and Ethel Merchant Ford; and her brother, Ennis Bailey. The story of Denise’s life was anything but ordinary. To describe her as a woman of tenacity and hard work would only begin to capture the essence of who she was. Shortly after relocating from Dallas to Bryan, Texas, Denise embraced a new chapter of life. Guided by her faith, she was joined by her forever sister and the man who would become her husband. She attended Bryan High School and later earned her associate’s degree from Blinn College in Bryan, Texas-laying the foundation for a life of purpose and service.
Denise devoted her professional life to public service, serving the State of Texas in the field of corrections for 26 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ. Later, she continued her commitment to service through the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) and expanded her professional path as a paralegal. Her career reflected strength, integrity, compassion, and a deep dedication to making a difference in the lives of others.
One of Denise’s greatest joys in life was motherhood. She was a devoted and loving mother to four children: Joshua Watson of Bryan, Texas; Byrrone Watson, Jr. of Bryan, Pensacola Ward (Bryan Ward) of Bryan, Texas; and Kimberly Jackson (Joseph Jackson) of Bryan, Texas. Beyond her own children, Denise played an honorable and nurturing role in the upbringing of her nieces and nephews, offering love, guidance, and unwavering support. Denise also found immense joy in her role as a grandmother. She is survived by her cherished grandchildren: Joshua Watson, Jr., Jayceon Ward, Sarayah Ward, Kiyon Burleson, Kullen Jackson, and Journee Jackson, each of whom brought her pride, laughter, and love.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers: Carl Anthony Lockett (Monica Lockett) of Bryan, Texas; Charles Merchant, Sr. (Christine Merchant) of Bryan, Texas; and Charlie Shaw of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters: Shantre Watson of Bryan, Texas; Sheneka Nickerson (Eddie Nickerson) of Bryan, Texas; Cynthia Lockett of Bryan, Texas; and Davyre Celestine (Nate Celestine) of Houston, Texas. She is further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family who will forever treasure her memory. Denise Watson will be remembered for her strength, grace, devotion to family, and lifelong service to others. From Earth’s embrace to Heaven’s gain, her legacy of love, faith, and resilience will live on through all who were blessed to know and love her.
