Corey Shawn Bavousett passed away tragically on October 5, 2025, in Amarillo, TX.

Corey Shawn Bavousett was born on June 18, 1986 to Robert Bavousett and Donna (Packer) in Fort Worth, TX.

Corey spent his childhood in Texas, relocated to North Carolina during his youth, and in his early 20s he made his way back to Texas where he met and married Roxsand (McCord). Together they had a beautiful baby boy who they named Cole Anthony.

Cole made Chace a big brother. Chace is Roxsand’s oldest son from a previous relationship, whom Corey accepted and loved as his very own son. Chace and Cole were Corey’s pride and joy. The four of them traveled and lived in North Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, and then making Texas their home.

As much as Corey tried and pushed through life’s obstacles and hurdles, Corey could never fully walk the line of a straight and narrow path. Sadly, Corey’s future would become cell block walls and metal bars. Even though bad decisions were to blame, Corey’s love for his son’s never simmered.

Corey painfully watched his son Cole grow up through prison glass, endless letters, and hours of phone calls. A hard life for a father and son, nonetheless, a bond and a love that will forever always be.

As time continued on and distance grew between the four, Roxsand and Corey always stayed in touch and honored each other’s promise to never divorce, regardless of the situation.

Along the way, Leilei was born, and Corey was thrilled to finally have a beautiful goddaughter who he called his little princess to the very end.

Even though tough times don’t last, tough people do (Corey’s favorite cliche!), Corey had a side to him many didn’t know.

Fishing and watching nature was one of his absolute favorite hobbies. He loved teaching the boys to fish and how to fix their lures. He enjoyed drawing and star watching when the skies were clear. A favorite memory was when we were fishing and my favorite lure went straight into the water. Without hesitation Corey went right in after it. Drenched and cold, he came out of the river with my lure!

Car rides and country music would always put a smile on Corey’s face! A beautiful smile to say the least! He was a jokster, a playful goofball always doing something to make you laugh. He was very kind and helpful with a loving heart. He would always say, smile for me, and tell me something good!

Corey was excited about the future plans Cole and him had made. Plans that involved father and son bonding and all the time they looked forward to making up. Places and things they wildly imagined that they could go and do. Adventures and talks that would become priceless. Nonetheless, the endless time they thought they had was sadly taken from them in an instant.

As this obituary serves as snippets of Corey’s life events, leaving Cole with only brief memories and future plans that will no longer be.

Corey is survived by his wife Roxsand of 19 years, his sons Chace and Cole, and his goddaughter Leilei. His parents, Robert (Linda) and Donna Packer (Shorty), his mother and father-in-law, Donna and Thomas Toiberg. His brothers, Edgar, Jerry, and Brandon. His sister Elizabeth; His loving Meme (Barbara Womble), and grandmother (Margaret Bavousett), aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Corey’s presents will always be cherished and his memory will always be remembered.

I hope this makes him smile and he hears something good!

  1. A husband and father being honored in a way that only a wife can give to her groom. May Corey’s soul find peace and may his memory be eternal.

With grace that gathers no moss,
    Constance

  2. I really didn’t know Corey but his brother (Robert Edgar Bavousett) is my soon to be husband and he loves Corey so much and always told me childhood stories that made me laugh! I wished I could have one day met him in person! Bless his family and most of all I am sorry for your loss!
