Bennie Joe Hunter was born to Peter C. Hunter and Lula Grace Brisby Hunter, the fourth of thirteen children, on April 28,1938 in Brazos County.
Bennie Joe married Estella Phillips-Hunter. This marriage formed a blended family: Lawrence, Dianne, and Frank Jr. Bennie Joe was a faithful member of Greater Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Several years later he and his wife moved their membership to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church until his health failed.

He was employed by Bryan Independent School District in the Transportation Department as a Mechanic for over thirty years. In his free time, he loved talking on his CB. Bennie Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Peter Hunter, Lula Grace Brisby-Hunter; sisters, Charlie Mae Lott, Elizabeth Sterling, Katherine Langston, Eliza Wilson, Alice Wilbert (twin), and Bobbie Figures-Jones; brothers, Peter Lee Hunter, and Gregory Jerkins.


He is survived by his children, Lawrence Hunter (Rose), Diane Stewart-Arrington, Frank Stewart, Jr.; grandchildren, David Hunter (Aimee), Angela Hunter, Raymond Jamahi Arrington, Kenya Austin (Anthony), Ernesha Wolf (Floyd); sister, Linda Robertson (Jimmie); brothers, Freddie Hunter (Alma), Ernest Hunter (Brenda), Jeffery Hunter; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
