Obituary
On January 11, 1946, a beautiful baby girl was born, to Jesse Lee and Minnie Mae Davenport, by the name of Jessie Mae, aka (Jitter). She was the third oldest of nine children. As a child she enjoyed being with her older sisters and being the producer/ leader/commentator of many childhood talents shows that she participated in as well as one of the singers. She also enjoyed cooking, singing, listening to music, family gatherings, and telling dramatized scary stories to her younger siblings in order to get them to do what she wanted them to do. Jessie was a kind and generous person. She would give you the clothes off of her back. As a young adolescent, she was a beautician to many neighborhood friends and like a mother to her younger brothers and sisters. Jessie attended Bryan Public schools.Later she met and married the love of her life, James Edward Henry on July 20, 1985, and acquired three children. Jessie Mae accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Lee Chapel United Methodist Church before joining in with her husband and uniting with New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She worked at Texas A&M for twenty-plus years before moving on to work for the old Bryan Hospital which eventually became the College Station Medical Center. There she served as a supervisor for thirty-plus years until her retirement.Jessie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Lee and Minnie Mae Davenport; two sisters, Erma Elizabeth Hicks and Alice Marie Washington; and son, Gregory Rogers. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, James Henry; two daughters, Monica Shivers, and Patrise Mack of Bryan, Texas; four sisters, Evelyn Johnson (Travis) of San Antonio, Texas, Beverley Waldon, Charlotte Davenport of Los Angeles, California, and Annette Walton of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Jesse and Joseph Davenport, both of Bryan, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Debra and Gloria Henry of Cypress, Texas; seven grandchildren, Temisia Curley, Jasmine, Tempestt Bootye, Brendan, Alise, Abreanna, and Braden Mack. This is a hard one my Sister. Heaven has gained a beautiful Angel. All the good and fun times growing up will hold a special place in my heart. Rest in Heaven my Dear Sister. It’s not going to be easy to see James and not see you. However, you will live on I our hearts. ❤❤❤
