Obituary

James Robert Murray, 77, of College Station, Texas, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather known for his loving, caring, and humorous personality, passed away at home on Sunday, September 8, 2024 after a courageous 19-month battle with Glioblastoma.

Jim was born to James (nee Thomas Virgil Satterfield) and Halas Murray on January 10, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Army for six years, including a tour in the Vietnam War. Jim and his wife Sheri, married in Virginia on December 14, 1966, during his service in the army. By the time he graduated from Brigham Young University in 1974 with a degree in accounting, they had already welcomed all three of their children, Christian, Jonathan, and Danelle, into the world. Through hard work and determination, Jim was blessed with a career full of accomplishments in the Pipe and Tube industry. In 2007, he retired as the Executive Vice President of Business Development for U.S. Pipe and Foundry in Birmingham, Alabama

After retirement, Jim and Sheri relocated to College Station to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In retirement, he found great joy in working in his yard. He loved planting flowers, trimming bushes, and pulling weeds. Jim found peace in nature

Jim also found great happiness in his cats, whom he adored and spoiled. No matter where he was, his cats Odie and Meow Meow were always nearby

Jim devoted his life to his family’s happiness and well-being. A man of virtue and high moral character, his life decisions were always propelled by loyalty, dedication, and integrity

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sheri, sons Christian and Jonathan, and daughter Danelle (David Wayne) Weaver. His granddaughter Abigail (Matthew) Dickson, grandson Lucas Weaver, great-grandchildren Levi Dickson and Hattie James Dickson, his namesake, also survive him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Halas, and his sister, Cherilyn

If our love could have saved him, he would have lived forever.

A private graveside service will be held at Old Bethel Cemetery in College Station

  2. What a beautiful, loving tribute to Jim…He always welcomed me with that great big smile when I would stop in to visit with Sheri. He did have a great sense of humor matched only by Sheri’s quick wit! They made a great match in marriage. One memory of Jim was seeing him working on old radio’s in his garage. May Sheri and family find peace and comfort in sweet memories shared over many years. He did love to garden and had a beautiful yard. My deepest condolences to your family.
