A Celebration of Life For Gregory Scott Hunchingson
Obituary
Gregory Scott Huchingson was born October 6th, 1961, in Irving, Texas, to parents Richard Dale and Rebecca Ann
Huchingson. He was 3 years older than his only sibling, Christopher Brent Huchingson, and 5 years old in 1970 when
the family moved to Bryan, Texas. He would go with his father to the Boy’s and Girl’s club, where his dad would write
articles about games & events happening at the club, and that is what he absolutely fell in love with. Eventually he
began writing his own articles about everything going on year-round and would drop them off by midnight at The
Eagle, where they would publish a few, with his name as author. Greg was named Man of the Year at the Boy’s and
Girl’s Club in 1980 and also started playing slow-pitch softball for the first time, who would have known where that
would take him. That was followed by his first born child, Mickel Dwayne Knight, in 1981.
He briefly attended college at Texas A&M and then Prairie View A&M University. He then went to work at the
Pictorial Press as a sport’s writer and had his second child, Ebony Nicole Knight, in 1984, and his third child, Jesse
Lee Burnett, in 1985, with the first annual Budweiser Tournament debuting in 1986. He would go on to win the
slow-pitch softball State Championship with his team, The Press, the first of many state and national championships
to follow.
Greg worked for The Press newspaper for around 20 years, along side his buddy Bubba Moore, welcoming his fourth
child in 1988, Brittany Michelle Huchingson. 1990 was an event-filled year for him winning the Class A State
Championship in slow-pitch softball and welcoming his fifth child, Jordan Alise Huchingson.
Greg mastered the art of running softball tournaments, which led to his next professional career choice of softball
tournament director. He was named Director of USSSA Softball for the South Texas in September 2008 and was
inducted in the USSSSA Hall of Fame in February 2016.
Greg’s Father passed away in 1998 and he lost is mother in 2007. He managed to figure out life after this great loss,
with a short marriage in late 2000’s, before rekindling his relationship, from the 1980’s, with the love of his life
Mamie Lashel Alexander, getting married November 21, 2017. Unfortunately, he was preceeded in death by Lashel
on their anniversary, November 21, 2022.
He leaves behind his sons Mickel Dwayne Knight, and Jesse Lee Burnett. His daughters Ebony Nicole Knight-Tennell
(Marko Tennell), Brittany Michelle Huchingson, and Jordan Alise Pennie (Marcus Pennie). Brother, Christopher Brent
Huchingson. Grand Children, Mickel Dawayne Knight, Jr., Ma’Kie Da’vahn Knight, Colin Michael Tennell, Christopher
Caleb Cyrus, Jeremy James Burnett, Cameron Chase Cyrus, Ma’hari Daquan Knight, Jaiden Devion Lee, Jaydon Bryant

he was the undisputed, King of Softball.
