Michael LeDell Porch Jr., 37 years old lovingly known as Mike and later as Chanel, was born on March 3, 1989, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas, to his parents, LaWanda Denise Anderson and Michael Porch. After LaWanda married Anthony Anderson (“Tony”) who served in the Army, he embraced Mike as his own son and loved him unconditionally. Mike was raised in Bryan, Texas, by his beloved grandmother, Pamela Cooks, affectionately known to everyone as “Kitty Cooks.” Mike always wanted to be with his granny and cherished every moment they shared. The bond between them was unbreakable.
From an early age, Mike displayed extraordinary intelligence. He was a straight-A student who
won numerous spelling bees and earned a scholarship to Duke University. His family often
said he was so smart that he never had to study—he simply knew the answers. His brilliance
was one of the many gifts that made him so special.
When Mike reached the eighth grade, he began living life as Chanel, a personality that
everyone who met could never forget. Chanel was vibrant, fearless, and full of life—a true
firecracker. She was the life of every party and naturally became the center of attention
wherever she went. Chanel loved to sing and could often be found sitting in the restroom for
hours, looking at herself in the mirror and singing her heart out. Her confidence, humor, and
unforgettable spirit brought joy and laughter to everyone around her. She was deeply loved by
family and friends alike.
On July 4, 2026, at 3:28 p.m., Chanel’s earthly journey came to an end in San Antonio, Texas.
Mike leaves behind his loving sister, Brittney Brock, and his Brother-in-law, Ethan Brock. He
also leaves behind his cherished niece, La’Nia Nicole, and Nephew, Maurice Jr., whom
Brittney shares with Maurice Mitchell. Mike loved them with all his heart and often treated
them as if they were his own children. He is also survived by his sister, TaShauna Hammond,
and his brothers, Jonathan, Tarreze, and J’Courie Porch; his Uncle Bobby Hutchinson and his
Grandmother, Dorothy Hutchinson on his father’s side.
Although distance kept them from spending as much time together as they would have liked, Mike loved each of them dearly. Mike also leaves behind his loving Aunts, Debra Griffin, Chelesta Amerson, Jessica Cooks and Brenda, and Uncle Monta Amerson, Jessie Ransom and JJ (Jessie Cooks, Jr.) who each held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his first cousins, Devonte Amerson, Davashia Roberson, Mya Amerson, and Halie Amerson. Mike loved each of them dearly and shared many wonderful memories, laughs, and unforgettable moments with them throughout his life. The love they shared as a family will forever remain in their hearts.
Mike is now reunited in Heaven with those who went before him, including his beloved Aunt
Faith Cooks, his great-grandmother, Lillie Mae Sims, and his grandfather, Jessie Cooks. While
his family grieves his absence, they find comfort in knowing he is surrounded by love and at
peace in the presence of the Lord.
Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the countless memories, laughter, and
unconditional love Mike gave to everyone blessed enough to know him. His intelligence,
beautiful spirit, unforgettable personality, and the love he shared with his family will forever
live in our hearts.
You may be gone from our sight, but you will never be gone from our hearts. Your legacy will
continue through the lives you touched, and your memory will be cherished forever. Rest
peacefully, Mike—our beloved Chanel. You will always be loved, always be missed, and never
be forgotten.
