At an early age, Malvonee united with Zion Hill Baptist Church in Singleton, Texas. After relocating to College Station, she attended St. Matthew Baptist Church, later becoming a founding member of Christ Holy Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor M.E. Wells.
She remained the eldest living founder until her passing. Throughout her years of service, she served faithfully as Youth Director, Mission II President, sang in the adult choir, held membership in the Women of Excellence, and greatly enjoyed traveling with her church family. Malvonee was known for her many talents and passions. She was an accomplished seamstress who took pride in her craft. She enjoyed fishing, cherished time spent outdoors, and found her greatest joy in caring for her family, while always placing their needs before her own.
She was united in marriage to the late Curtis D. Merchant Sr. Together they built a family grounded in care and commitment. She was a loving mother to four children, Thomas (Sharon) Merchant, Andrew Merchant, LaVerne (Lawrence, Sr.) Cunningham, and Curtis D. Merchant Jr. She shared a special bond with her beloved nieces, Cynthia Searcy, and Glenda Ginn, as well as her nephew Reginald Searcy, who held a dear place in her heart.
