Today, we lay to rest in the arms of our Lord a great man. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, an uncle, a cousin, and a good friend.
Clarence “CB”, Bub Britton, Jr, was born in Mumford, Texas in October 16,1994, to Clarnece Britton Sr and Velma Britton. He was the baby brother of Doris Britton Calhoun.
At an early age, Clarence accepted Christ. After moving to College Station, he joined St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. M.O. Cooper. His faith and deep love for the Lord carried him through life, and he never hesitated to share that faith with everyone he met.
The Britton family moved to the big city of College Station when Clarence was in the eighth grade. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964. During his first year at Lincoln, he played the bass drum, but he soon excelled as a great football player. After high school, Clarence began his working life at Alenco. He later became one of the first black men employed by UPS. He continued his career in retail sales at Save-A-Stop for many years. Eventually, he joined Sam’s Club, where he worked in finance and other departments until his health declined. He retired from Sam’s Club after many dedicated years of service.
Clarence’s life was marked by accomplishments. He was ordained as a deacon at St. Matthew Baptist Church by Rev M.O. Cooper. He was recognized by the Lincoln Recreation Center Community Knights with the Keeping the Dream Alive Award and also received the Partner of the Month Award at Sam’s Club.
On Juneteenth 1965, Clarence married his high school sweetheart, with whom he had shared a bond since the eighth grade. They were blessed 59 years of marriage and three children; Sebastian Tyrhone who preceded him in death in 1991 at the age of 26; Toiya Britton Magee; and Tammarah Britton. God further blessed their lives with three grandchildren- KeTarrah Keenan, and Sebastian- and four great-grandchildren: Kemarion, Keyonnah, Laila Reign, and Gianna Marie.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Britton, Sr. and Velma Britton, as well as his beloved son, Sebastian.
Those who will always cherish his memory include his devoted wife. Charlene; his daughter, Toiya (Tyronne) and Tammarah; his grandchildren: Ketarrah, Keenan, and Sebastian (Sarah); and his greatgrandchildren: Kemarion, Keyonnah, Laila, and Gianna.
