Celebration of Life

Minister David Hilmon Ayers was born December 7, 1952, in Teal Prairie,
Burleson County Community, to the late Mr. Filmore Ayers, Sr. and Mrs. Birdie
Lee Ayers.

He peacefully left this earthly realm on Sunday Morning, September 22, 2024. At an early age, Minister
Ayers accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church – Teal Prairie.
He always talked about his early childhood Sunday School and loved the teaching.
He attended Smith Elementary School and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1971. He attended
Prairie View A&M University from 1971-1975 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Industrial Technology and a double major in Business.
He met his loving wife, Lisa Smith of 50 years at Prairie View or on the Hill, and to this union one child
was born, their daughter, Chaundra L. Ayers.
David was a man of many talents and he had a great love for humanity. He was never without a smile. He
loved to fish, BBQ, plant vegetable gardens and share with family and friends. He was very technical,
creative and could fix anything. When he moved to Bryan, Texas in the early 80’s, he opened his own
BBQ Restaurant called “The BBQ Hut.” He was then blessed to get into the oilfield industry and worked
until he was called home. He had a true appreciation for the Dallas Cowboys football team, win or lose, he
loved and supported “The Boys.”
In 2004, David and Lisa became a member of the TCAC-Galilee Fellowship Church, where new life
began. He began singing with the praise team, became a deacon, part of the finance committee, and head
of the food ministry. David loved singing and in the year of 2022, he was called into the ministry of the
Gospel and was licensed under Pastor Calvin Arnold. He was so excited. God took him to another level
and he loved sharing the Gospel message everywhere he went. He was a faithful and humble servant of the
Lord.
Before his transition, he fell in love with a song, “Who’s Gonna Tell Them” by Pastor Marvin Winan. This
was his testimony. He was going to tell the good news everywhere he went and he did indeed.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Filmore, Sr. and Birdie Lee; sister and brother-in-law,
Mary Gaston (Levi), and brothers, Dury, Craig and Sylvester.
David leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Associate Pastor Lisa Ayers; daughter, Chaundra Ayers
(Taief); granddaughter, Anai Ayers; brothers, Filmore Jr., Eugene (Norva); sister, Birdie Lynn Ayers;
sister-in-law, Diane Ayers; sister and brother-in-law, Lavonya and Xavier Jones of North Little Rock,
brother-in-law, Dennis Smith of Dallas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Special classmate and friends, Edward Pittman, Sr., William H. Ellis and Pastor Wesley Hodges.
