Obituary

Lawrence Nutall Sr., known to many as “Big Boy,” was born to Clarence Nutall and Annie Mae
Johnson on August 3, 1932, in Bryan, Texas. He was the sixth child born to their union.
Mr. Nutall joined and accepted Christ at an early age at Galilee Missionary Baptist church under
the leadership of W.L. Wheaton. In 1983, he later joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist
Church where he served as a devoted deacon under the leadership of Pastor Thomas and later
under the leadership of Pastor Anthony D. Hill, until he departed from life.
Lawrence attended Washington Elementary and E.A. Kemp Junior-Senior High School until the
12 th grade. While attending his senior year of high school, the United States Army drafted him to
fight in the Korean War. He would go on to dedicate 8 years of service to his country. Earning
himself the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service
Medal for his hard work and dedication.
During his transition from the Army, he was able to attend Tyler Barber School, where he
graduated and became a licensed barber. Although he worked various jobs throughout the
years, there were three jobs that he grew to love. He worked for Halsell Motor Company Inc.
and Luna’s Paint and Body Shop as an auto body technician for several years. And later went
on to work for the City of College Station, where he was employed for 15 years until his
retirement in 1998.
On March 24, 1960, Lawrence Nutall and Theresa J. Ellison became united in holy matrimony.
To their union, they were blessed with seven children: Dearest, Lawrence (Jr.), Jeffery, Linda,
Anthony, Sherry, and Christopher.
Lawrence loved to sing. His passion for singing led him and his twin brother to form a quartet
group known as the Gospel Harmonizers. Their group would go on to travel throughout the
South and minister God’s word through songs of worship. His love for music was passed down
to his children and grandchildren who would go on to form a group (the Desire Choir) and follow
in his footsteps.
The love that he had for his church was undeniable. He served not only as a deacon but as a
board of trustee member, accountant for the church daycare, and maintained the interior and
exterior of the church. His family always knew that if he were not home, he could always be
found at his home away from home, Morning Star.
Mr. Nutall is preceded in death by his parents, Clearance Nutall and Annie Mae Johnson,
maternal grandparents Annie Wiley and Sandford Johnson, his brothers, Larry, Lewis, Frankie,
Sandford (S.L), twin brother Lorenzo, and sister Minnie Mae Nutall.
Lawrence is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 64 Theresa Nutall, all 7 of his children,
