In Loving Memory of Maria “Mary” Ocon Triana
Obituary
Maria “Mary” Ocon Triana was born to Tiburcio and Julia Ocon in Sweetwater, Texas on December 5, 1943. She grew up in Bremond, Texas and attended Bremond High School.
In 1974, Maria met Jose Felix
Triana in Bremond, Texas, whom she later married. Maria and Felix were married for over 40 years and loved each other deeply. You would often find them going to
garage sales on early Saturday mornings or tending to their garden of chiles and peppers. They spent every single moment of their married life together. They even worked side-by-side for 18 years at Willow Oaks Apartments in Bryan before she moved to Bryan ISD. Together, Maria and Felix had one child, Jesus Ocon Triana.
After her retirement from Bryan ISD in 2004, Maria spent much of her free time gardening and sewing. She sewed and hemmed many different items, such as jean skirts, dresses, oven mittens, curtains, blankets, and cloth bags for tortillas. In her prime, she sewed together many quinceañera and damas dresses for friends and family.
In 2011, Maria greatly contributed to the opening of La Carreta in Bryan. Every morning, you would most likely find her at the restaurant helping in any and every capacity possible or taking her well- deserved break at Table 3.
In addition to her busy schedule, she was also very active in her church, Templo Pentecostal del
Nombre de Jesus. On weekend nights, from Friday through Sunday, you would more-than-likely see her car parked in front of the church. Maria served many years and dedicated much of her time as
the church secretary and treasurer. Many saw her as a strong pillar of the church.
It was in 2017 where she had to take a step back from her busy lifestyle and live the remainder of her days resting from all her years of hard work and service.
Maria Ocon Triana was a wife, mom, “buela”, and sister during her wonderful 80 years of life. Maria
passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, June 1, 2024, surrounded by her closest family and friends at CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
