In Loving Memory of Jurline Mosley

Obituary

Jurline Mosley was born on June 7th in Bryan, Texas to the union of Woodrow and Johnnie (Anderson) Wilson. Born the eldest of five (Ruben, Ernestine, Zoro, and Woodrow), she helped raise her siblings after an unfortunate loss of her mother at a very young age (all the children were reared by their “Big Mama”).

Jurline “Jerri” or sometimes affectionally known as “Dean” was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bryan, TX, where she shared her musical gift by playing the piano at Sunday School. She attended school in Bryan and graduated from her beloved E.A. Kemp High School in 1954. While in high school, even though quiet in nature, everyone knew her to be multi-talented. 

Her musical ability could be seen in church during Sunday School and with the high school choir where she was the accompanist on many occasions. Her popularity with her classmates afforded her the opportunity to be crowned Miss Kemp High for the class of 1954, an honor that is validated in the Brazos County African American Museum. Her membership in the Tri Hi Y club, the Future Homemakers of America (cooking), and the New Homemakers of America (sewing), laid the foundation to be the perfect homemaker.

Following high school graduation, she moved to San Francisco, California and lived with her Aunt Ida and Uncle Chapple Wilson, who provided support to her while she pursued her Associates of Arts degree in Business Administration. While in college she joined a business sorority, which fostered many long-lasting friendships. Upon graduating in 1957 from City College of San Francisco, she began her career working as a Clerk for the Federal Government – U.S. Treasury/U.S. Mint. Jurline excelled in her career pursuits and was recognized with many accomplishments and awards.

After moving to San Francisco, Jurline married James Mosley, a Kemp High school-mate and from this union they grew their family with a beautiful set of twin girls, Juralynne “Lynne” and Jerlinda “Linda”, with Linda being the element of surprise. They then realized that they had to adjust to buying doubles of everything.

After living in San Francisco for several years, in 1968 Jurline and James decided to move to South San Francisco (SSF), California to raise their family. Following a 15-year working career with the government, she decided to focus on her children’s upbringing by becoming a stay-at-home mom, community volunteering, and civic engagement. Jurline could often be found volunteering at the local public schools, as an election poll worker and with the SSF Community Advisory Committee and demonstrating her commitment to social justice through active involvement with the NAACP San Francisco local chapter.

Some of her pastimes included researching and updating the family tree database, cooking, sewing, checking up on friends and loved ones (yes…many got those late-night phone calls) and periodically taking computer courses. Jurline had a very special personality who was loved by many near and far.

Jurline departed her natural life on May 5, 2024, and ascends to the heavens to be with her loved ones and husband of 50+ years.

Jurline was preceded in death by her late husband (James Carey Mosley). She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Sharon Barron, Lynne Mosley, Linda (Clarence) Banks; grand-daughters, Sharalynn Mosley, Samantha Brown, great-children; Skylar Brown, Dominic Brown, and Dawson Brown, three sisters; Shirley Ann Comfort, Sandra Kay Scott, Gwendolyn Wilson and two brothers-in-law, Jon (Melba) Mosley, and Clifton Moore III, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
