Obituary

Reflection of Life
Spring flowers bloomed on April 21, 1981, when Charolette Vermuda Giddings was born in Waco, Texas. She was the first child of Charlie V. Giddings and Ellen Ruth Giddings.
Charolette accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of the South Union Missionary Baptist Church. During her time at the church, she actively served in various roles, such as director of the youth choir, director of youth praise dance, and secretary of Sunday school. Charolette was deeply committed to her faith and always strived to be a true witness to God.
Charolette attended Marlin High School, where she was proud to showcase her spirit as a cheerleader. She also participated in volleyball, basketball, and track. Her most memorable high school moment was being crowned Homecoming Queen, escorted by her father, the late great Charlie V. Giddings, Sr. Charolette graduated from Marlin High School in 1999 and went on to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Prairie View A&M University.
In November 2006, Charolette and Carlos reignited their high school romance, which led them to get married a year and a half later on August 31, 2008. Charolette had a son, Mar’Shawn Darique, whom Carlos nurtured as his own. Carlos had a daughter, Ca’Leyah Jazmonae, whom Charolette cared for as her own. Together, they had two children: Celsey Janae and Carlos Jerome Jr. This past year, Charolette and Carlos celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in the Dominican Republic.
Charolette worked for Head Start where she served as the Center Director for several years. It was during that time; she discovered her passion for teaching and learning and decided to further her education by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and Supervision from Phoenix University. After relocating to Beaumont, Texas, Charolette worked as a case manager with Child Protective Services and Spindletop Center before landing her career job at Evolution Academy Charter School Beaumont as an English Teacher. She then earned her teaching certificate in Special Education from Region 5 Education Service Center and worked in dual roles as a Teacher- Special Education Coordinator.
As an educator, Charolette was more than just a teacher to her students; she was a confidant, motivator, mentor, friend, and a role model. She earned the love, respect and admiration of her colleagues. All who had the privilege of knowing her will remember her perseverance passion for teaching and her unwavering commitment to her students’ success. She was truly a servant leader. Her work ethic was deeply influenced by her Christian beliefs, reflecting principles of compassion and dedication in her approach to teaching.
There are so many fond memories of Charolette that will continue to bring smiles and joy. She was truly a remarkably good, thoughtful, hardworking, and fun-loving person who wanted everyone to always be happy and feel loved. Charolette was a person of great character, devotion, integrity, love, and compassion.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charlie V. Giddings, Sr.; son, Carlos Jerome Burrell, Jr.; one brother, Eric Giddings; and three sisters, Sheila King, Melanie Giddings, and Tracy Giddings.
