Celebration of Life For Ora Lee Williams

Precious Memories

Ora Lee (Wiggins) Williams, the tenth (10) of thirteen (13) children, was born on October
21, 1922 to Arthur and Sealie Wiggins. Ora Lee professed hope in Christ at an early age. She was baptized
at Riverside Baptist Church in Burleson County. She attended public schools in Mumford, Texas, where she
went as far as the sophomore year. After completion of her education, she began employment as a domestic
worker in private homes. She was a caretaker for their children and manager for their household. Ora Lee
was a restaurant cook, a beautician, and home health caregiver.
Ora Lee and Joe Curtis Williams were united in matrimony in the 1950’s; to this union God blessed
them with twelve children.
In her early young adult life, she joined the Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church of Bryan, Texas, where
she served as a faithful member; a member of the choir, Sunday school teacher for the intermediate class;
teacher for the Baptist Training Union (BTU). She was a member of the Women’s Mission Program I.
After 50 years or more membership at the Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church, she moved her
membership on June 23, 1997, to Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, under the leadership of Elder D.E.
Williams, until her death. She was the Church Mother of Sovereign Grace and obedient servant in tithing,
giving, and holiness. During her service at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church she had a near perfect attendance
for many years at Sunday worship service and Wednesday night bible study. She was a loving, careful,
generous spirit to everyone she met. Some of the things she loved to do were sewing, decorating, gardening,
cooking, canning, quilting, and beauticianing (doing hair). She also loved to travel, visiting the sick and
shut-ins, relatives and friends. She was the coordinator of the Wiggins Family Reunions for 65 years or
more. She loved helping others.
Ma’dear was famous for being a great cook. Some of her most popular dishes were hog head cheese,
German chocolate cake, pineapple coconut cake, potato salad, hot water cornbread, just to name a few. In
a word, “Ma’dear could just flat-out cook”.
Ora Lee was employed by and retired from the Bryan Independent School District after twenty years
of service.
Ora Lee passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 11:21 P.M. at her home. She is now in
the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents and all twelve siblings; her
husband, Joe C. Williams; and three children, Ruby, Royal, and Fadie.
She leaves to mourn five sons and five daughters, Melvin (Connie) Wiggins – Waco, Texas; Donald
(Kathy) Williams – Bryan, Texas; Travis (Rosalyn) Williams – Bryan, Texas; Cardis (Shaniqua) Williams
– Waco, Texas; Alfred Bookman – Los Angeles, California; Lillie Hamilton – College Station, Texas; Ora
Roberson – Waco, Texas; Deanell (Victor) Smith – Arlington, Texas; Elvis Annette Williams – Bryan, Texas;
Minnie (Bernard) Shell – Bryan, Texas; She also leaves to mourn forty seven (47) grandchildren; eighty-
six (86) great-grandchildren; and thirty-six (36) great-great-grandchildren; two senior relatives, Ina Mae
Williams – Bryan, Texas; and Earl Ewing – Brenham, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and
many friends.
