MS. IDA (JOHNSON) SHELBY WALKER

Ms. Ida Constance (Johnson) Shelby Walker was born on April 21, 1955 to Mrs. Erma Jean (Gillespie) Wooley and Mr. Earthel Wooley Sr.  She grew up In Bryan Texas and attended Bryan Public Schools.  Ms. Walker accepted Christ at an early age and attended Pleasant Hills Baptist Church and Fairview Baptist Church while growing up.  After uniting in marriage to Mr. Arthur Lee Mooring, she continued her faith by attending Air Force Base (AFB) worship services in Colorado while living on the USAF Academy Base then later in Alaska when living at Eielson AFB in Fairbanks Alaska.

Prior to becoming ill, Ms. Walker was an active member of St Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan where she supported the Woman’s Mission Group and Church Building Fund Team.  After becoming ill, she always found a way to tune in to hear God’s word delivered by local ministers over radio and television stations.  Ida Walker had strong faith and always looked to God’s work first.

She was a strong leader and positive advocate for education and always encouraged her children to achieve their goals in life. Ms. Walker completed a degree in Education early in life and completed Teacher certifications to instruct classes in Texas.  She worked in Bryan ISD as a Physical Education Teacher as well as taught Social Studies and other subjects in Snook ISD as an Elementary Teacher.  She retired from teaching in November 2006 after completing a successful career in Education.

As a female who grew up during the Civil Rights Movement, Ms. Walker learned to displayed positive self-confidence and to have personal independence throughout her life which includes her recent experiences with health issues.  She will always be remembered as a strong, independent lady who showed great love and concern for everyone.

Family members who proceeded Ms. Walker in death are her Mother Mrs. Erma Jean Wooley, Father Mr. Earthel Wooley Sr., sister Mrs. Eleanor Jean Booker, grandparents Mr. Daniel Young Sr., Mrs. Juanita Young, and Mr. Lonnie B. Johnson.

Living family members who will cherish Ms. Walker’s memories are her children; Mr. Arthur Mooring Jr., Mrs. Mashalle Carreño (Jorge), Mrs. Idanishia Cairo (Luis).  Sisters and brother; Dr. Sharon B. Holland (Raymond), Ms. Sheila Wooley, Mr. Earthel Wooley Jr. (Wanda).  Aunts and uncles; Mrs. Rosa Suldon (Lawrence), Mrs. LeNora Reed, Mrs. Alma Green, Mr. Daniel Young Jr. (Rosalind).  Seven grandchildren; Arthur III, Miranda, Brandi, Luis, Angel, Alexis, Mike Jr. and a host of other uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Ms. Walker’s family and friends were always her pride and joy.  

Vistation will be held Tuesday June 30, 2020 from 2pm to 6pm in the chapel of Daniel and Son Funeral home, 401 W. 18th st., Bryan, tx 77803.

Graveside services will be on July 1, 2020 at 11:00 am at Restever Memorial Park Cemetery, 103. North Texas Ave , Bryan , Tx 77803.

    Our condolences to Ida’s family. May God give you peace with the happy memories you shared. She was our classmate and I used to see her at Lurl’s Beauty Shop when Shanda use to do our hair.
