Robey Hanks
Sunrise: January 20, 1947
Robey Hanks was born January 20,1947 in Navasota, Texas to the late
Mary and Harvey Hanks, Sr. He was the last born of eight children. Robey attend-
ed elementary school in Navasota grades 1-4. The family later moved to Bryan in 1957. There he attended Booker T. Washington Elementary and later E.A Kemp High School where he graduated in 1965.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was united with New Chapel Baptist Church.
Robey loved his family very much and would do whatever he could to see that they got whatever they needed. Being a very skillful man, he found joy in building and or repairing things for his family and friends.
One of his other specialties was barbecuing for family dinners. His nieces and nephews
(especially the out of towners) looked forward to Uncle Robey’s Bar-B-Q ribs, chicken, and brisket. Robey was a man of strong will. Once he set his mind on something, there was little or no chance of getting him to change it. He worked in various jobs during his lifetime. He retired from Brazos County Road and Bridge after being employed from 1993 to 2009.
On May 28,1983 Robey united in Holy Matrimony to Wilma Faye DeShone of
Caldwell, Texas.
He joined St. Matthew Baptist Church (a little white wooden church that sits on a hill on FM 2000 in Caldwell). There he served on the Usher Board and was president of the finance Committee.
Robey loved his church and was always concerned about its well-being, making sure that the facilities were operating properly, and that the grass around the church was well groomed. He was a diligent worker until his health began to fail. He will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; Willie Hanks Terrell, Melvin
Hanks, Harvey Hanks, Jr., and, Walter Hanks; one sister, Wazzie Masco.
To cherish his memories, he leaves his loving and devoted wife of thirty-six years, Wilma DeShone -Hanks; one sister; Cordia Hanks of Bryan, Texas; one brother, William Hanks of Bryan, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Earnestine Hanks of Bryan, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sending my condolences to the Hanks family. We are praying for the family.
