June 19, 1951 – July 31, 2015

Roseanna Elizabeth Sweatt passed away unexpectedly in Bryan on July 31, 2015. Roseanna was born on June 19, 1951, in Ada, Oklahoma, bringing with her a smile that expressed her joy at being alive and her desire to share that joy with everyone she met. Roseanna was a kind and wonderful person. She was devoted to her two daughters, Shana and Amy, giving them the loving attention that came naturally to her, and bestowing the same love on her grandchildren, Dakota and Myla. Roseanna grew up in Canyon, Texas. She was a Texas All-State Flutist in high school. She attended West Texas State University in Canyon, her studies culminating in an M.A. in education. A Homebound teacher for many years in the Bryan public school district, Roseanna mastered many disciplines in order to meet the educational needs of her students. This special form of education allowed her expertise as a teacher to converge happily with her natural warmth, as Roseanna brought home to her students the worlds of science, mathematics, and literature, as well as a caring and compassionate nature, giving hope and promise to students who often were in situations that deprived them of both. Roseanna had a highly developed sense of humor and sense of the absurd. She loved to travel and enjoyed meeting new people, always making others feel special and welcome. She took in many stray cats and dogs over the years, along with the occasional stray human. Roseanna was predeceased by her loving parents, David Raymond and Nina Grace Matthis, both of whom transmitted to her the idea that all human beings have worth, an idea that she exemplified throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Michael Sweatt; her two daughters, Shana Sweatt, and Amy Sweatt and husband, Josh; her grandchildren, Dakota and Myla; her brother, Michael Matthis and his wife, Rose, and many family and friends. The funeral will be Thursday, August 6th, at Daniel and Son Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Please leave condolences and memories at www.danielandsonfuneral.com

My dear Amy and Shana, and family, I am so broken-hearted for you. I loved your Mom and will miss her sweet smile. She was a sweet sister-in-law, but now she is with her favorite brother-in-law. I am sure Paul was there to greet her. I am so sorry you are now going through the pain that little Paul & I have experienced over the last year. God bless all of you and I will be there for the funeral. Love, Aunt Bea
