Elmira Chambers Ray, of Bryan, was called to eternal rest Sunday, March 14, 2015 at Lampstand Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 96.Funeral Services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church of Bryan with interment immediately following at Wheelock Cemetery, in Wheelock, Texas. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, in the Daniel & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Life began for Elmira Chambers Ray (Nute) on July 16,1918 with Henry and Pearl Blue Chambers in Wheelock, Texas. She was the third of nine children born to this union. At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Wheelock. For a few years, she was an adult Sunday school teacher at her church after it moved from Wheelock to Bryan under the pastoral leadership of Reverend A.W. Ray where she also sang in the church choir. She married Fred Ray of Bryan, and to this union no children were born. Elmira worked for the R.B. Butler family for forty years as a domestic. She was compassionate to friends and relatives and would lend a helping hand when she could. She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory, her brother, Vernon Chambers and wife Doris, of Denver Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
